Haiku Building

About

Small on purpose.

Two lead carpenters, three apprentices, one coordinator, and a director who is on site rather than in an office across town. We take on two large jobs at a time, so every home gets the attention it was priced for.

Why “Haiku”

Nothing wasted, nothing missing

A haiku carries only what it needs: five, seven, five. A good home is built the same way. Everything placed with intent, nothing there for show, and the whole thing quieter than the sum of its parts.

Our mission: bridging the gap between housing, health and how we live. Our values are integrity, sustainability and teamwork. Those words are on a wall somewhere in most building companies. Here they decide what we build and who we build for.

Director

Todd Parris

Todd is a fourth-generation builder and a carpenter by trade. He completed his Certificate IV in Building in 2013 and a Diploma of Building and Construction Management after it, and he completed the Passive House Tradesperson course in 2020.

His background spans architectural builds and remedial work. Pulling failed homes apart taught him where houses go wrong, which is most of what makes him careful about how new ones go together.

He leads every Clarity Process meeting himself and is the one point of contact from first conversation to handover.

The crew

Who’ll be on your site

Michael

Lead carpenter

Mick runs a site the way the paperwork says it should run: logs kept, diaries consistent, the standard set by example.

Blake

Lead carpenter

Delivery-focused and fast on the tools. Spots the problem two steps before it arrives and works the solution early.

Cooper

Apprentice carpenter

Mature beyond his years, steps up for responsibility, and the kind of person people enjoy working beside.

Flynn

Apprentice carpenter

Shows up with the right attitude, takes feedback well, and is becoming a reliable part of the crew.

Hugo

Apprentice carpenter

The newest member of the crew, learning the trade the Haiku way: tested, documented, done properly.

Shannin

Operations coordinator

Invoicing, coordination and the admin that keeps a site supplied and a client informed.

A straight answer

We’re not the right builder for everyone

Good projects come from good fit. Here is ours, stated plainly. It saves everyone time.

We’ll work well together if you…

  • Want a forever home that’s healthy to live in and stays comfortable year-round, not a quick flip
  • Are working with an architect or designer, or want help finding the right one
  • Want real numbers before you commit, and accept that takes a paid feasibility stage
  • Care what your family breathes: low-tox materials, filtered air, no damp

We’re probably not your builder if you…

  • Want the cheapest quote. We don’t cut corners, so we don’t win those jobs
  • Are running a tender for new work. We don’t tender, we partner
  • Need it rushed. Quality takes the time it takes
  • Want a builder who just follows orders. We’ll have the difficult conversation if the house needs it
