The new roof, straight off the old one
Roof framing over the recycled brick walls.
Over old brick walls
the new steel takes the weight:
the terracotta stays.
A rear extension built on recycled brick walls under a green steel roof frame, with new floor joists over the old rooms and a membrane roof over the hip before the sheeting went on. The new roof runs straight off the original terracotta: the whole story of a Sydney extension in one frame.
The kitchen is green joinery with a curved island, set against the recycled brick and wrapping the corner window. The photographs here are mostly from during the build, because that is where this job tells its story: the bones, the membrane and the junctions, photographed before they were covered.

Under the plaster
The work you won’t see once it’s finished
Photographed before it was covered, because this is the part that keeps the house warm, dry and quiet.
